7 Signs That You’ve Picked the Right Car Salesperson

Successfully buying a car has just as much to do with who you buy it from as it does which car you choose. A good car salesperson will not only help you find the right vehicle and make sure the process goes smoothly, he or she can also help you save money and get you a better deal.

But how can you tell if you’re working with the right car salesperson? The good news is that there are plenty of well-trained and professional sales professionals out there to help you. Here are seven signs that you’ve picked the right car salesperson to work with:

  1. They listen to you

The right salesperson will spend more time listening to you and asking questions than they will talk. Understanding your needs is the most important part of a successful vehicle transaction, and the right salesperson will understand that and focus accordingly.

  1. They’re responsive

A great salesperson will be very responsive and return your emails, texts, and voice messages promptly. Working with somebody who is unresponsive can be one of the most frustrating things to deal with in the business world, and you should never settle for it.

  1. They’re honest

If you’re working with the right salesperson, they’ll be brutally honest with you, and tell you something even if you’d rather not hear it. Whether it’s to have realistic expectations based on your budget, or letting you know that you might potentially be making a bad purchase, a great salesperson will put their honesty and integrity above all, even above making a sale.

  1. They’re proactive

Instead of waiting for things to happen, the right salesperson will take the initiative and make them happen. For example, if you’re looking for a particular vehicle that’s not in stock, a good salesperson will try to find it at another dealership and get it to you. The same goes for following up with you; a great salesperson will check in with you every so often to make sure you’re still satisfied with your purchase and to see if there’s anything else they can do to help.

  1. They want you to be happy

A mediocre salesperson wants to be happy, a great salesperson wants you to be happy. The best salespeople understand that having you walk away with a car while smiling from ear to ear is the best possible outcome that can happen. Your happiness is the key to a successful career for an automotive salesperson, and the right salesperson gets that above all.

  1. They’ll go the extra mile for you

A vehicle transaction doesn’t always go off without a hitch, so it takes going the extra mile to make things happen sometimes. A great salesperson will do just that, whether it’s pushing to get an approval that’s difficult to get, or driving a few hundred miles to deliver a vehicle. The right salesperson won’t just give up on you at the first sign of adversity.

  1. They want to build a long-term relationship

This could be the biggest difference between the right salesperson and everybody else. A true sales professional wants to build a long-term relationship with you, one that will hopefully last decades, and help with you, your family’s, and your friend’s vehicle needs for the long-term. They want to stay in touch with you and become a trusted resource for anything automotive-related. To put it simply, they’re in it for the long-haul.
